Danced with All His Might

David the King

And David danced before the LORD with all his might. And David was wearing a linen ephod.
2 SAMUEL 6:14 · ESV

David is dancing, wearing a plain linen ephod instead of royal robes, as the ark of God enters Jerusalem. He's the king — he could have stood at a dignified distance and let priests do the moving. Instead he's dancing with all his might, in public, dressed like an ordinary worshiper.

There's something almost embarrassing about this scene, and that's the point. Later in the story, David's own wife despises him for it — too undignified for a king. David doesn't care. Whatever this celebration is about, it's bigger than looking respectable.

Maybe you've held back from real joy or real gratitude because it felt like too much, too exposed, not composed enough. This story suggests that when something is genuinely worth celebrating, the people who understand what's actually happening stop worrying about how it looks from the outside.

What would it look like to celebrate something real without worrying about how it looks from the outside?

A short video on this is coming soon — for now, read on.
