Yours, O LORD, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the majesty, for all that is in the heavens and in the earth is yours. Yours is the kingdom, O LORD, and you are exalted as head above all.
David is old, handing over a kingdom he built, and he stops to pray something that isn't really about himself at all: yours is the greatness, the power, the glory, the victory, the majesty. Everything in heaven and earth belongs to you. It reads less like a king talking and more like someone finally putting down something heavy he's been carrying.
There's a kind of relief in a prayer like that, if you think about it. If everything genuinely belongs to someone else — someone with real staying power — then it was never actually resting on David's shoulders to begin with. He built a kingdom, and then, at the peak of it, said out loud that none of it was really his.
Most of us build smaller kingdoms: a career, a reputation, a family we've shaped. This prayer doesn't ask you to stop building. It just asks who you think it ultimately belongs to when it's finished.
