For I know that my Redeemer lives, and at the last he will stand upon the earth.
By this point in the story, Job has lost nearly everything a person can lose, and his friends have spent chapters insisting his suffering is his own fault. This is not a man with an easy life whistling a hopeful tune. This is someone in the middle of the worst stretch imaginable, saying, with startling certainty: I know that my Redeemer lives, and He will stand on the earth at the last.
That's not optimism about his circumstances improving. His circumstances, at this point in the book, are not improving. It's a claim about something underneath the circumstances — that whatever is happening to him now isn't the final word, because someone exists who will eventually stand up on his behalf, on solid ground, not just in some vague spiritual sense.
This line has outlasted the specific disaster that produced it because it names something a lot of people reach for in their worst moments: not proof that the pain will stop soon, but conviction that it isn't the last chapter.
