My Help Comes

My Help Comes

I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth.
PSALM 121:1-2 · ESV

"I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come?" That question isn't rhetorical flourish — it's someone genuinely scanning the horizon, looking for anything solid to hold onto. Hills, in that world, could mean shrines to other gods, or just a symbol of strength bigger than yourself. Either way, the question is honest: where is help actually going to come from?

The answer given isn't vague. "My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth." Not a hill, not a system, not a person who might let you down — the one credited with making the whole landscape you're currently searching. That's a specific claim about scale: bigger than whatever you're facing, because it's the source of everything, not one option among several.

If you've been scanning your own horizon lately, looking for something sturdy enough to lean on, this verse doesn't shame you for looking. It just points somewhere specific and asks you to look there too.

When you honestly ask where your help is going to come from, where does your search actually stop right now?

A short video on this is coming soon — for now, read on.
