Discovering Jesus Together
DAILY VERSE · Day 202

Made with Care

Known by God

I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.
PSALM 139:14 · ESV

"Fearfully and wonderfully made" isn't a line about feeling good about yourself. It's a claim about craftsmanship — that whatever put you together did it with the kind of care that makes the psalmist genuinely stunned. Fearfully here doesn't mean scared; it means awe, the reaction you have to something too intricate to have happened by accident.

Then comes the second half, easy to skip past: my soul knows it very well. Not a fact accepted on someone else's authority, but something the writer has actually come to know from the inside — a settled certainty, not a slogan repeated to feel better.

Most of us are more familiar with the opposite feeling — that we're a rough draft, still being fixed. This verse doesn't deny there's more growing to do. It just insists the raw material was never the problem.

If you've mostly experienced yourself as an unfinished problem, it might be worth asking whether the raw material was ever really the issue.

A short video on this is coming soon — for now, read on.
