Seven Years Building

Seven Years Building

And in the eleventh year, in the month of Bul, which is the eighth month, the house was finished in all its parts, and according to all its specifications. He was seven years in building it.
1 KINGS 6:38 · ESV

Seven years to build a temple. This verse is almost administrative in tone — the month, the year, all its parts finished according to specifications. Not a burst of miraculous instant construction. Seven long years of ordinary, sustained work.

It would be easy to skip a verse like this, since nothing dramatic happens in it. But that might be exactly why it's worth pausing on. The most significant building project in Israel's history didn't arrive overnight. It came through years of unglamorous labor before anyone stood back and called it finished.

If you're in the middle of something slow — a change in yourself, a relationship being rebuilt, a season that just won't hurry up — this verse doesn't rush past the waiting. It records the years, on purpose, as part of the story worth telling.

What slow, unglamorous work in your own life might be worth more than it feels like right now?

A short video on this is coming soon — for now, read on.
