Trust While Afraid

Trust in Fear

When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.
PSALM 56:3 · ESV

Notice what this verse doesn't promise: it doesn't say "when I am afraid, the fear goes away." It says "when I am afraid, I put my trust in you." The fear is still there. It's named plainly, no spin on it. What changes is where it gets pointed.

That's a more honest offer than most encouragement people get. Nobody can promise you'll stop being afraid — life gives plenty of legitimate reasons to be. What this verse offers instead is somewhere to put the fear, rather than just carrying it alone in your own head.

If you're in a season of being afraid right now, this verse doesn't ask you to talk yourself out of it. It just asks a smaller, more honest question: is there somewhere real you could set that fear down, even briefly, instead of holding it by yourself?

Where do you usually put your fear, and is there somewhere better to set it down?

A short video on this is coming soon — for now, read on.
