And behold, the glory of the God of Israel was coming from the east. And the sound of his coming was like the sound of many waters, and the earth shone with his glory.
Ezekiel has just been given a detailed tour of a rebuilt temple — measurements, gates, courts, chapter after chapter of architecture. It could read as tedious until this moment, when the point of all that structure finally shows up: the glory of God returning, coming from the east, loud as the roar of a flood, lighting up the ground itself.
What's easy to miss is why this mattered so much. Earlier in the book, Ezekiel had watched that same glory leave the temple, departing a city about to fall. This return isn't just scenery. It's the reversal of an exit that had looked final.
Buildings and blueprints on their own don't mean much. What makes a place matter is whether something real actually shows up in it. This verse is about that arrival — not a symbol of presence, but presence itself, loud enough to be unmistakable.
